Youth Coordinator Cheryl Jones

Cheryl Jones

My name is Cheryl Jones. I am the Youth Director and Children’s Coordinator for the Rossville United Methodist Church. I love working with children of all ages.

I have been doing some form of youth ministry for the past 20 years or so. I have taught Sunday school for preschool age, third and fourth grade or junior and senior high for about as long as I can remember.

I worked in many leadership capacities in the Tribal Trails Council of the Girl Scouts. I have worked with Girls Softball. I love working with kids.

I started as a volunteer youth worker in my home church in Logansport, IN somewhere around 1997. I was hired as their full-time youth worker in the fall of 2001. I began working in my current capacity in Rossville in June of 2005.

I think that it is vital that children hear God’s word preached to them through the ears of love. I attempt to make each child around me feel loved and appreciated.

I keep that same philosophy with the teenagers. I try to help them express their faith through acts of service. Our goal is to put at least one service project in our schedule each month.

I also believe that it is important to remove teenagers from the routine of their life so they can better hear and understand God. Each month we also schedule a fun activity where a teenager can bring a friend. These events are generally laced with a life lesson.

I believe consistency is the foundation to any ministry. Once the monthly schedule is printed, it is rarely changed.

I believe that youth group should be a safe and affirming environment. Someplace the youth can come and let their hair down and be who they are.

I am an Ichthus veteran. My first Ichthus experience was the famed spring of 2002 when the Ichthus grounds was evacuated at 2 in the morning. I have been back nearly every year since. I have seen God move in teenagers’ and adults’ hearts every year I have attended. (Even during an evacuation.)

You might have noticed that the pastor and I share the same last name. That is such a coincidence. We share the parsonage together as well. We have been married only a few short years (August 2005). I was a youth worker and he was a pastor before we met. We have learned that with God’s help we can do some great ministry together.

My door is always open, if you have any questions about the youth ministry of the Rossville United Methodist Church. Stop by anytime and chat.
