Worship on Sunday, April 27
It was a chilly day as we gathered together for worship. The crowd was happy to see one another as we gathered as God’s children.
Rodney Lawrence led the opening announcement time. Frieda C, Janet R and Megan Z each discussed prayer concerns with the crowd.
The worship service was called to order. Al Remaly was our liturgist of the morning. He talked about reading the book, “The Man in the Mirror.” In that book he learned that each time he saw a mirror he asked himself if he was reflecting God’s glory with his life or is he reflecting the world? He has found this to be a great way to stay accountable to the faith.
Two members of the youth group did a short skit to advertise their upcoming dinner theater.
Betsy Remaly led us in our opening hymns, “Ah, Lord God” and “He Keeps Me Singing.”
During the prayer time the Pastor offered to anoint anyone with oil who would like prayers of healing. 4 people came forward for healing prayers.
Steve Gottschalk taught the children. He talked about how we have this problem of seeing people and assuming we know what their insides are like by seeing their outsides. During the time that he was talking about this and why it might not be a good idea, he was cracking raw eggs into a jar. The last egg he cracked open had a quarter inside of it. He talked about how we have good within us. We need to look beyond the hard shell and the gooey stuff.
Following the offering we sang, “Near To The Heart of God.”
The scripture lesson was from James 1:19-27.
The pastor talked about how listening to others well, talking just a little while not becoming angry is a great witness to God’s love in the world.
He also talked about all the moral filth in the world and how easy it is to allow that ugliness into our lives.
He talked about the illustration that James used about looking into a mirror. He pointed out that we don’t look into a mirror and decide that we’ll comb our hair tomorrow. When we hear God’s teachings, we should care for those spiritual problems immediately.
He closed by asking how we are caring for the poor around us.
Following the message we had a time of going to God’s table to break the bread of communion together.
Our closing hymn was “God Will Take Care of You.”
About 124 people enjoyed our worship service together.
