Worship on January 13, 2008
The worship service began with about 10 people talking about how God had been working in their life and about concerns on their heart.
Ginny McCabe was our Liturgist of the morning. She called the service to order by asking the congregation to spend a few minutes greeting one another.
Jennifer Lawrence was our song leader of the morning. She was assisted by her young daughter, Olivia who spent most of her time hiding behind the lectern. We opened with the song, “You Are My Hiding Place” and “Let us Break Bread Together.”
The pastor used the prayer time to invite folk to come forward for anointing with oil and prayers for healing. Two people responded.
Vanessa Dotson taught the children’s time. She talked about healing. After she announced the topic, one of the children confidently said, “Only God can heal people.” What better lesson could we teach? Vanessa had the book “One Wintry Night” by Ruth Graham. Through this book we heard about Jesus’ life and about the full life God calls us to live.
Our middle hymn was “Have Thine Own Way, Lord.”
The Scripture reading was from John 9:1-7.
The pastor talked about some of the healing acts that Jesus did when he was walking upon our Earth. He talked about Acts 5 and Acts 19 where we read that Peter and Paul were able to do amazing healing acts.
Then he took us to James 5:13-16 and said that the elders of the church now have the right to ask for healing. God worked through powerful leaders when the church was being established. Now God works through the church.
Through prayer we can ask for whatever we desire. God answers any prayer, including healing prayers, according to God’s perspective from the larger picture of life. Prayers for daily bread are considered as are prayers for healing. God has the right to answer each prayer according to His wisdom.
This led into a time of communion where we were invited to talk with God about healing some part of our relationship with him.
Our closing hymn was “Amazing Grace.”
About 112 fine folk enjoyed worship together on this day.
