Worship on February 3, 2008
As the faith community gathered together, there was an air of excitement and expectancy. Most people were chatting with one another. Several people commented about the noise level of the chatting and how that brought the building to life.
Janet R, Jennifer L, Vicki R, Jane E, Ned M and Sean A each had prayer concerns to bring before the congregation.
Al Remaly was our liturgist of the morning. He brought the meeting to order by talking about an interview he saw with President Bush. The President talked about recovering from additions. Al talked about how the season of Lent helps us overcome our addition to sin.
Betsy Remaly was our song leader of the morning. We opened up by singing “Something Beautiful” and “Revive Us Again.”
Following the time of prayer, Chris Willis taught the children. Chris did a few slight of hand tricks like making a coin disappear, making 3 ropes of different sizes become the same length and using weighted dice. Chris compared this to the way Satan will try to trick us into thinking evil is good. We need to be aware of the Devil’s tricks.
Pastor Rick played a song that he had put together with pictures. It was preformed by the Christian music group called The Lost Dogs. The song was entitled “Home Again.” It reminded us that we can make a mess out of our lives. God will always allow us to come home again. Pastor Rick used that song to remind us that Lent is a great time to evaluate the priorities of our life.
Following the offering we sang, “Near to the Heart of God.”
The scripture was Philippians 3.7-14.
Pastor talked about our goals and priorities in life. Are we trying to live life like everyone else in the world or are we living for God’s glory?
Paul talked about how all the stuff of the world he now considers as a loss compared with knowing Christ Jesus. Are we playing in the rubbish of the world?
Christ took hold of each of us for a purpose. Do we live for that calling? Do we live enough for Christ to feel good about ourselves? Christ has such a better plan.
The season of Lent is a great time to forget about what’s behind us and strain for the goal for which God calls us heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Our closing hymn was “When we all get to Heaven.”
The youth group collected money at the doors to purchase food for our local food bank as a part of the Souper Bowl of Caring.
About 115 folk enjoyed our worship service.
