Worship on February 24

It had been a snowy wintry week here in north-central Indiana. The sun came out on Saturday to melt most of the snow from the pavement. Folk felt good about coming out for church.

Rodney L did the opening section of our service. Anita L, Vicki R, Melissa H, Rusty M, Wilma G, Chris W and Jennifer L all shared prayer concerns with the gathered family.

Vanessa Dotson was our liturgist of the morning. She called us to worship by reading a quote from Sheila Walsh which asked if we really understand the concept of God’s invitation to us. It is a great gift offered to us.

Linda Ostler led our songs. We opened up with “Come, Holy Spirit” “My Life is in you” and “Jesus is Coming Again.”

After the time of prayer and before the pastor called the children forward, he invited the children to be in ministry. He pointed out that most of them had spend the past several minutes coloring. He said that if any of the children would like to turn their coloring in that the church would mail these to the shut-in’s. What a great way to connect the older generation with the younger.

Linda Ostler also taught the children. She talked about how each of us are a treasure to God. She brought some precious stones of onyx, turquoise, silver and others as examples of the precious stones of the world. She read from Exodus 28:17 and talked about how precious we are in God’s sight.

We sang the song “Victory In Jesus.”

Our scripture reading was from I John 3:1-6.

The pastor talked about his spiritual home. He painted a mental picture for us of why the chapel building on Asbury’s campus is important to his spiritual health. He quoted from the CS Lewis book about how we are tempted to be too busy to experience God in this life. The preacher encouraged us to be in contact with our spiritual home and to live a life true to our home.

The closing hymn was “Jesus Calls us Over the Tumult”

About 146 fine folk enjoyed worship together.

Following the worship service was a called Administrative Council meeting. The topic of this meeting was the purchase of property. The house and land that is to the north of our current parking lot is for sale. We have a verbal agreement with the homeowner. The council voted 24 – 0 to purchase this land. One more meeting is necessary before this can happen.
