Worship on April 20
It was a warm sunny Sunday morning. Everyone seemed to bring a great attitude with them as they gathered together for worship.
Rod Lawrence led our announcement time. Most of the talk was around the Walk Thru the Old Testament seminar that we were hosting that day.
Wanita T and Chris W were the only ones who discussed prayer concerns with the group.
The worship service was called to order. Vanessa Dotson was our liturgist of the morning. She invited the youth group to make an announcement. They did a skit to promote the dinner theater they will be hosting in 2 weeks.
Vanessa introduced Tim Hodge, our guest speaker of the morning then invited Linda Ostler to led our opening hymns. We sang, “Majesty” and “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” together.
Following the time of prayer, Rossville High School Sophomore Chris Willis taught the children. He asked them to imagine that each of us were given 100 pennies when life began. Each time we sinned cost us a penny. He talked about how easy it is to fall into sin and lose pennies in this life. He continued by asking what would happened if it cost us 100 pennies to enter heaven. How many of us would be able to purchase our way into heaven? He concluded that this is the point of grace. We can’t buy God’s grace. It can only be freely given to us. Without it, we are all in trouble.
Following the time of celebration of the offering we heard Psalm 119:1-8.
Tim Hodge began teaching us about the major events of the Book of Genesis. He taught us the highlights of the creation story, flood story and the lives of Abraham, Sarah and their families. Tim was able to give all these stories in ways that were easy to remember and interactive.
It was a fun teaching time.
Our closing hymn was “Lord, I want to be a Christian”.
About 143 fine folk enjoyed our morning together.
