Sunday, May 11

Worship on Mothers’ Day began with excitement in the air as the Children’s Sunday School department hosted a party for the ladies of the church. As many of the ladies entered the sanctuary they carried flowers, balloons, sand art and other memories from the party.

Allen Remaly hosted the announcement section of the service. Barb W, Sharon S, Megan Z, Jacque C, Barb M and Linda O each shared a prayer concern with the congregation.

Barb Michael called our worship service to order. She asked us to recall last week’s sermon where the pastor asked us what kind of God do we serve and the children’s message person asked the kids to do something kind for someone this week.

Putting those two thoughts together Barb read from Matthew 25:31-46 to remind us that the God we serve will be as merciful as we are merciful to others.

Betsy Remaly hosted the honoring of mothers section of our service. She pointed out that each of the ladies should have a bulletin with some kind of a sticker on it. She said that if a lady had green sticker that the Pastor would be coming over to clean their house. If a lady had an orange sticker that the Pastor would give her $50.00. If a lady had a yellow sticker that the Pastor would pay for an all expense paid trip to Frankfort. After we revived the Pastor and picked him up off the floor, we were able to continue with our worship service.

The real answer was that the 8 ladies who had a flower sticker and not a colored sticker was allowed to take home a Geranium. All the ladies were invited to take home an Impatient in a cup colored by the children in the Sunday school department.

Betsy and her daughter, Alyssa, read a short skit about what mothers teach us. It was insightful and entertaining.

Linda Ostler led our singing of the morning. Our opening songs were “Great and Mighty” and “How Great thou Art.”

Following the time of prayer, Jeff Reach taught the children. He had them gather around him as he whispered to them so that rest of the congregation couldn’t hear what was going on. When they broke their huddle, each of the children had a single rose that they gave to their mother or other lady of the congregation.

Following the sharing in the offerings, we sang, “A Christian Home.”

The scripture lesson was from I Samuel 25:14-35.

The pastor used the story of Abigail and David to point out 5 virtues of a good woman.

1) A good woman always has time for others.
2) A good woman hears God’s word and is not afraid to follow God’s word.
3) A good woman knows when to show respect and when to demand respect.
4) A good woman helps other see the bigger picture in life.
5) A good woman gives others the freedom to confess the stupid plans they had.

It was a great Mothers’ Day sermon.

Our closing hymn was “The Bond of Love.”

About 118 people enjoyed our time of worship together.
