Pastor

Pastor Rick Jones

It has been an honor to be the pastor of this church since June 2003. During this time I have enjoyed teaching in large and small group settings. I have spent much time in prayer and study as I try to understand how God is directing this pastor, his family and the church into new and exciting ministries in our local community and in our world.

Before being ordained as a United Methodist Pastor in June 2003, I worked as a youth director either full-time or part-time, on staff or volunteer since May 1985. No, I’m not totally broken down. I am still doing youth ministry as I work closely with the part-time youth worker at this church.

My Bachelor’s degree is a double major from Asbury College (1984) in Accounting and Business Management. [It is obvious how that line of study would lead to a youth ministry career.] My Master’s of Divinity degree is from Asbury Seminary (2000).

I actually believe and teach such things as: we all have a sin problem that can only be solved through a real and personal relationship with Jesus the Christ. The Bible is worth reading. [I have read it cover to cover in a year’s time every year since 1996.] Good works will never be adequate to save us. But, they make a great Thank Offering to God. We must be out serving God and our neighbors in as many creative ways as we possibly can.

I love listening to current Christian Rock and Roll in such bands as: Pillar, Thousand Foot Crutch and Toby Mac. [I’m listening to RadioU over the web as I type this.] I also enjoy The Lost Dogs (or any Mike Roe project) and Reliant K. I really miss and think the world needs to still hear the message of DeGarmo & Key and Steve Taylor.

On those occasions that I’m able to bust away from being a pastor and/or a youth worker, I enjoy hiking around the great outdoors with my wife and my antiquated 35MM Canon camera.

If you are ever in our neighborhood, I’d love to chat with you about any of the above topics or anything else on your mind. If you can’t make it or our metropolitan area, I’ll answer the emails and talk backs as I am able.

God’s Love and Peace to You,
PaRick
