Based on Matthew 12:31-32, am I forever condemned for the profanity I directed at the Father the Son, and the holy spirit?
No, I think God’s grace and mercy run deeper than that. God longs for us to repent of our sins and turn to Him.
The stories in chapter 12 are talking about who Jesus is. There are demons talking about Jesus’ identity. There are religious leaders debating whose spiritual side Jesus was working for. In that context Jesus taught “blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which will never be forgiven” (NLT). I believe that Jesus is talking in a riddle, as he does so well. That is, the only person who cannot be forgiven is that person who doesn’t recognize that forgiveness comes by means of the Holy Spirit. If we blasphemy and say the Holy Spirit is not able to forgive us, we cannot be forgiven.
God is aware that this life stinks. God is aware that there are times that we lose our temper and say things that should not be said. God is aware that there are times that people take their anger out at Him. Although, he would rather we live His way of peace and love, He knows we are still part of this world. God has not shut the door of freedom from sin.
Repent. Soak in God’s forgiveness and live as a free man.
